Are Expensive Tires Worth It?

This is a question that many drivers ask when they head out tire shopping, especially when they see the difference in tire prices. Why is it that one tire will cost $60, when the same size tire in another brand can cost $120. What makes the difference? Often it comes in the form of warranties on the amount of mileage that the tires are supposed to be able to handle before wearing out. Cheap tires tend to have low mileage ratings, maybe 25,000 or 35,000 miles, while the more expensive tires will have warranties with 60,000 miles. Usually this difference simply comes down to the rubber used in the manufacturing process. A good quality tire is made with superior materials and along with the extra mileage, the handling will also be superior.

Of course for those on a budget, the difference in price of $60 per tire, or $240 more for a whole set is simply beyond their budget. While the less expensive tires will perform fine, you will just have to replace them more often and the handling will be slightly different.

For someone that drives far distances often on highways, purchasing a more expensive, good quality tire is certainly worth the investment. After all, the only thing separating your from the road is a set of 4 tires!
