Thrifty Auto Rental- The Perfect Spot To Rent Your Auto
Car rental companies have some interesting names. Names like Alamo Auto Rental and Budget Auto Rental give renters the impression of low cost, a great deal, while names like Enterprise engender smart business. But no name is better than that of Thrifty car rental. Thrifty means wisdom with cash. So when people are looking for cars to rent, there’s no better decision than to save money, spend it wisely and only when necessary. So get thrifty.
Thrifty Auto Rental began in the car rental business way back in 1958. In the 1980’s it went public, then was purchased by Chrysler in 1989. Then it was merged with another rental company, Dollar. Thrifty is a top known brand world-wide and one of the largest of the auto rental companies. The majority of its fleet is, as expected, Chrysler cars including both Dodge and Jeep.
Some other businesses are run under the Thrifty name. It’s a car seller too, for its older fleet cars. It’s commonly thought that rental cars aren’t treated well by drivers. But in general the Thrifty rental fleet is treated well by renters. These cars are cared for on a tight schedule, unlike used cars from private owners who often don’t maintain them. Furthermore, penalties for damage encourage rental car drivers to take extra special care of the car while in their charge. Thus, cars sold by rental companies tend to be in better overall condition than used cars from private owners.
Another business Thrifty operates is long term airport parking. Travelers who drive to the airport often need a safe place to keep their car while they’re out of town. Long term parking offers this facility at a reasonable price. Thrifty operates these facilities at airports all around the world.
Back to the history of Thrifty, there are some pretty interesting aspects. Thrifty rented the Volkswagen Beetle before it became popular. It was $6 daily for a Beetle. Miss Thrifty was introduced in attempt to attract single males. She was a young, good looking woman who would shuttle customers to Thrifty’s facilities near the airport. Even better, she wore Scottish plaid.
Thrifty car rental is an important business. But it has a weird and wild side also. Maybe wear a little plaid next time you rent from Thrifty. Maybe they’ll offer a rental discount.

Thrifty Auto Rental- The Ideal Place To Rent Your Car
Car rental companies have some interesting names. Enterprise brings to mind hard work, while Budget Auto Rental and Alamo Auto Rental bring good value to mind. But no name is better than that of Thrifty car rental. Thrifty, as a word, is the ultimate in wise money decisions. Saving money, spending it only when necessary and then spending it well, those are good things. In other words, to be thrifty.
Thrifty Auto Rental began in the car rental business way back in 1958. It offered stock in the 1980’s before being purchased by Chrysler in 1989. Then it was merged with another rental company, Dollar. With one of the best known brands in the world, Thrifty continues to be tops in the car rental industry. The majority of its fleet is, as expected, Chrysler cars including both Dodge and Jeep.
Thrifty operates some other car related businesses. As many other rental companies, Thrifty sells its rental cars after their time of service as rentals is complete. It’s commonly thought that rental cars aren’t treated well by drivers. Most of the cars are treated well, however. Dealerships may be full of used cars from people who didn’t maintain them, while Thrifty cars are cared for on a clock work schedule. Furthermore, penalties for damage encourage rental car drivers to take extra special care of the car while in their charge. Rental company cars are, therefore, generally in better shape than most other used cars.
Long term parking at airports is another of Thrifty’s businesses. Long term parking offers low cost, safe lots for people who need to park their vehicles while traveling. Thrifty lots are somewhere near almost every airport in the world.
Back to the history of Thrifty, there are some pretty interesting aspects. Thrifty rented the Volkswagen Beetle before it became popular. The rental cost for a Beetle was $6. In the wild and wacky 60’s Thrifty took advantage of the general playboy mentality with Miss Thrifty. This was a lady, usually young and pretty, who would drive customers to Thrifty’s off airport facilities. She wore the plaid of the Scottish for some reason.
It’s not joke, is Thrifty car rental. But as with many companies it has its quirky side too. Maybe they’ll offer a free upgrade if you don a kilt.

Car rental companies have some interesting names. Enterprise brings to mind hard work, while Budget Auto Rental and Alamo Auto Rental bring good value to mind. Thrifty may have the best name of all. People who manage money well are thrifty. So when people are looking for cars to rent, there’s no better decision than to save money, spend it wisely and only when necessary. So get thrifty.
It was 1958 when Thrifty Auto Rental came into being. Chrysler bought it a few years after it became a public company. Later it was paired with another auto rental business called Dollar. With one of the best known brands in the world, Thrifty continues to be tops in the car rental industry. As one would expect the bulk of its fleet is Chrysler, with some Dodge and Jeep cars in there as well.
Some other businesses are run under the Thrifty name. It’s a car seller too, for its older fleet cars. The first impression of such cars is they would be in bad shape, long abused by people who only drive them for a short time. Most of the cars are treated well, however. These cars are cared for on a tight schedule, unlike used cars from private owners who often don’t maintain them. Renters pay penalties for damages, too, so they tend to be careful. Rental company cars are, therefore, generally in better shape than most other used cars.
Thrifty also owns long term airport parking lots. Travelers who drive to the airport often need a safe place to keep their car while they’re out of town. Long term parking offers this facility at a reasonable price. Thrifty operates these facilities at airports all around the world.
Here’s some more Thrifty history. When Volkswagen Beetles first came to America they made a deal with Thrifty to rent them to help introduce them to the public. The Beetle cost $6 a day to rent. In the wild and wacky 60’s Thrifty took advantage of the general playboy mentality with Miss Thrifty. This pretty young woman would pick up customers at the airport to bring them to their car. She wore the plaid of the Scottish for some reason.
Thrifty car rental is a serious subject. But there are some humorous elements too. They may give you a discount if you wear a plaid tie.
